Brother News in brief as of September 30, 1998

Darren MacCauley (PK 27) Darrenmcc@aol.com dropped us a few lines. Darren and his wife Amy, and their children Cody and Laurelyn have moved to Charlottesville. He let us know that Mike Sheffield (PK 44) has moved there as well and that Jonathan S. Mills (PK 117) can be e-mailed at mills27@aol.com.

C.J. Maurice (PK 84) ofcr.cj@worldnet.att.net passed on some good brother info for the mailing list and e-mail addresses for John Benton (PK 76) jbenton@erols.com, David Meadows (PK 80) mea05@hotmail.com.

Andy Hicks (PK 142), recently graduated! slicks@aol.com (home) and APHicks@apa.state.va.us (work).

Jabba wrote us a letter:

"Hello fellas!

Following is the latest in the continuing sage that is the life of Jabba (Known to his mother as Michael Taylor and to his father simply as . . . boy!)

Priscilla and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary last month at our new home in Mill Valley, California. We decided that our time in Salzburg, Austria (three years for me and nearly two for her) had sufficiently satisfied our longing for life with lagers, wheat beers, and Pilsners. Having given the job market in Richmond (Virginia for McGill's reference) a
sporting try last year (to no avail), I decided to transition back to our land of plenty (where we are consumed with our leader's taste for flavored tobacco) on the pacific coast . . . where I might sample the pale ales, I.P.A.s, and steam processed brews that are so deliciously available here. As well, I must confess that age and a notable decrease in my tolerance to alcohol has led me to develop a taste for chardonnay (or when on a budget...California table wine.)

Unfortunately, I have, indeed, been forced to budget lately. The cost of living in Marin County, where B.M.W. (as recently reported in the Marin Independent Journal) is the car of choice, is quite steep! My location is very comfortable as I sit here writing to you within four miles (along a footpath of sequoias) from Tennessee Beach and some 20 minutes (without traffic) across the Golden Gate Bridge and into San Francisco.

HOWEVER, IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE: It is Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (pacific time) and I am sitting here writing to you . . . and I didn't take the afternoon off. In short, I am still out of a job!!! I have been at it for about four months now, and still no luck (which is the reason that I have fallen behind on my correspondence to you). I've been corresponding with 100s
(well, over a hundred) schools, companies, and nonprofit organizations in search of work. About a month ago, I joined a career management firm (at a hefty price) to help me organize my thoughts, identify my skills, develop a marketing brochure (we no longer call it a resume), establish contacts in my chosen market, and secure a job. I am certain that something will soon be presented to me that will cause my feelings of frustration and despair to fade . . . it must! One of the many benefits of the firm that I have joined is to determine where my skill set may best be utilized and focus my search on that highly specific position with a clear objective. My objective is a fundraising position to utilize my proven planning, presentation, and
closing skills in a medium or large organization. Should you become aware of such an opportunity, please drop a note my way and I will mail you my new "marketing brochure" ;-)

Please do not consider this message to be simply a request for a favor, but also as an invitation . . . a very sincere invitation. When furnishing our small, but homey apartment, Priscilla and I choose a sofa with fold-out queen sleeper with our friends in mind. I know that San Francisco is a popular convention city and tourist destination and we are looking forward
to extending a little southeastern hospitality here in the northwest. If your travels do not bring you some 2700 miles (from Farmville) to visit me, then I hope you will be at the 'wood for Spring Weekend next April. Unfortunately, I will not be able to travel to it, for Oktoberfest for our charter rededication, but I do have my ticket in hand (literally) for April 16-18, 1999.

With that in mind (the charter rededication), if you haven't already - please don't forget to thank Sebastian <CalliopeSF@aol.com> and Estes <mike.estes@CapitalOne.com> for making the whole thing happen AND Jason <jblount@tez.net> for getting the ball rolling with his (which was the first) donation toward the cause last year. I feel better knowing that we have a charter again!!!

I suppose that I have gone on long enough. I hope that if I have not heard from you in a while that you will do me the pleasure of an update on what's happening in your life. XOXO!

Yours in the Bond,
Jabba MTClements@compuserve.com"

Mark B. Cole (PK 129) married Michelle on August 29, 1998. Congratulate him at Cole80@bloomberg.net (no attachments).

Mark Cole let us know that Russ Hancock (PK 135) married Stephanie on September 12, 1998 and Mark will be at October Fest. Thanks for the info Mark.

Stuart Hallett dropped us a few lines: "I got married on August 15 to a wonderful girl. Scott Kasper went to high school with her in Oakton. Her name is Mara and she graduated from JMU and got her Master's in Social Work from VCU. We went to Jamaica for the honeymoon and discovered the joys of the clothing optional section. As long as you stay in the shade, nudity in Jamaica is easy." "I will be in Farmville for the golf on Friday but must leave for some work-related activities. Bummer." "I love the Rho-Kappa alumni page."

Congratulate Stuart on his marriage or if you wish on his Jamaican escapades -- a freakishly white and tall red-head sauntering on the beach in his all together, what a picture! -- at shallett@megasurf.net.
