The Tree House Mural |
The Tree House Mural. |
| For Clover Forest's loftiest room, my wife Deidre envisionned lush painted folliage on the walls of the room.
While I had done the occasional painting, I had never done anything this big and there was concern whether I could do it at all. I did have some help and I learned a lot in the process. Here is a tip: latex house paint is not the best for a mural, it often is too thin, and when mixed it turns easely flat and muddy, in contrast Acrylic Golden Paint was amazing. Painting at a 45 degree angle was interesting too. |

"Tree House Mural" |
Of course one cannot have a Jungle without animals. The completed pannel shows Asia meeting Africa, to the left you can see the Asian Elephant, a Tiger Cub a Panda Bear, to the right an African Elephant, Chimps, a Giraffe etc. The plants and trees are generally continentally appropriate, some plants were easy as Banana trees are found on both continents. Our guests often call the "Tree House," by the appropriate name of "The Jungle Room." |

I looked at the works of many different artists such as the Douanier Rousseau, Frida Kalho and others to figure out they tackled folliage, perspective, colors etc. The images of the animals, such as the elephants, were found in the pages of National Geographic, of course I did anthropomorphized them a bit. As a kid, Babar was my introduction to Elephants and I have been infatuated with these amazing creatures ever since. Most of the mammals are personnal favorites, the giraffe is Patrick's, my godson. As you might have noticed the mural is only on one wall. The concept was to have the Americas on the opposite wall of the room but time ran out. The wedding season neared and other projects needed to be completed as well. Now all is needed is a little courage and lots of time. |
